Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act
The Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505/1, protects consumers and businesses from a variety of types of fraud, including any deceptive action by a vendor with the intention that others rely on that deception in making the decision to purchase. Our attorneys have experience in litigating under this statute in a variety of contexts, with particular emphasis on the Consumer Fraud Act as it relates to real estate, new construction, condominium associations, and home improvements. In 2006, "Construction and Home Improvement Fraud Complaints" constituted the #3 most common category of complaints made to the Illinois Attorney General. (Source). This included complaints related to "remodeling (1,101 complaints); roofs and gutters (391); siding, windows, and doors (350); new construction (263); and plumbing and sewers (175)."
